Oud is one of the most popular, luxurious and expensive fragrances available. First famous in the middle east, this fragrance soon took off as a trend across the world.
Oud comes from the wood of agarwood tree which when starts to rot produces a dark, fragrant resin which is known as Oud. This tree grows in the Middle East and some parts of South East Asia where the soaked wood is used to make perfumes, incense and fragrance oils.
The smell of oud is known to be rich, deep, and very strong compared to other fragrances. When you first smell it, you will notice a bold, woody scent which eventually becomes warm and smoky. You may also notice hints of sweet notes resembling honey or dark fruits, which is why Oud smells so luxurious and capturing.
Oud is often mixed with other scent profiles to enhance the fragrance. Some Oud’s tend to smell musky or leather like, which gives the fragrance a lot of depth and character. These types of scents often represent power, wealth and luxury.
Depending whether the Oud has been extracted from, the scent can be sweet or earthy. This usually depends where the agarwood tree grows and how the resin has been extracted. You may find many high end brands also have their own unique collection of Oud perfumes which tend to be at a higher value compared to their other range of fragrances. Oud fragrances are arguably better value due to their intensity and longevity.
